029: Bank of China Tower
Credit: Threesixfive Content Ltd
A work of distinguished architects Palmer and Turner, this art deco building was the tallest in Hong Kong when completed in 1952. It was headquarters to the oldest of China's four major banks for many years, looking over the then Cricket Ground that has now become Chater Garden #011. It currently serves as a branch of the Bank of China rather than its Hong Kong headquarters, which are housed in the Bank of China Tower #029 next door. The upper floors are occupied by The China Club, a sophisticated restaurant and private club decked out in 1930s Shanghai style.
