042: Old Peak Road

Starting at Robinson Road and ending at the most tourist-focused part of The Peak, Victoria Gap, a walk along historic Old Peak Road is an excellent, healthy constitutional. It offers great scenery and nature just a stone’s throw from the centre of the city. For those coming from Central, Old Peak Road can be accessed from the southern (top) end of the Zoological and Botanical Gardens #040, or alternatively from the top of the Central–Mid-Levels Escalator #071 it can be reached by following Conduit and then Hornsey Road. After winding steeply past apartment blocks, the most pleasant walking section is from the junction with Tregunter Path, where it makes three hairpin turns ascending the wooded mountainside. Towards the top, magnificent views emerge through the trees. Although the walk is short (forty-five minutes at most), it can be hard work on a summer’s day, so bringing water is recommended.
