Otherwise known as “Cat Street”, Upper Lascar Row is a short alley parallel to Hollywood Road crammed with stalls and shops selling antiques, artworks and curios of all sorts, ranging from original pieces from imperial China to modern-day decorative replicas. It is a great place to browse for hours on the hunt for unique souvenirs and home decorations. Visitors often purchase memorabilia from the Communist period, bold propaganda posters, dog-eared editions of Mao’s Little Red Book, or figurines of soldiers. Also popular are ceramic vases, snuff bottles, protective jade amulets, and collectable Chinese coins from many periods. A few trendy coffee shops have also sprung up along Cat Street and its adjoining alleys.
