This is one of the many temples throughout Hong Kong devoted to Tin Hau, the goddess of the sea. This pretty temple, with its green tiled roof, colourful sculptures of writhing dragons, murals, Chinese lanterns, statues of various gods and shrine within, makes an interesting and contrasting detour from the rest of Causeway Bay. The temple’s location is at the eastern edge of Victoria Park, next to Tin Hau MTR station. It was built in the 18th century by a family of Hakka immigrants, at that time overlooking the sea that is now half a kilometre away. The same family still look after the temple today.
