Hong Kong is home to more than seventy temples dedicated to Tin Hau, a Chinese goddess of the sea originating from Fujian province, who is widely worshipped in the coastal regions of south and east China. The Tin Hau temple in Stanley is a typical example, propitiously located with a view of the sea. Of unusual interest is the tiger skin mounted on the wall. It is from one of the last wild tigers sighted in Hong Kong, which was shot outside Stanley Police Station in 1942.
