Islington is a primarily residential area in north-east London that was still relatively rural in the 16th century. The area’s agricultural roots partly stemmed from its role as a stop-off for farmers driving their cattle to Smithfield Market in the City. As with many centrally located areas in London, Islington has developed significantly in the last twenty years to become a prime real estate area and home of many professionals who work nearby in the City of London. As such, house prices are high and the area is filled with markets, restaurants, pubs and other entertainment options
