Broadway Market is a street filled with shops, pubs, restaurants, cafes and stalls selling fresh produce and street food as well as fashions and design. Historically, the street was used by farmers to drive sheep to market at Smithfield in the City of London. Fred Cooke started selling jellied eels to the farmers in 1900 and the restaurant 'F.Cooke' still sell them today, alongside pies and mash.  The market is open on Saturdays and attracts hundreds of visitors to its 135 stalls. The local community strongly oppose the type of gentrification that has occurred in areas such as Shoreditch and the area is filled with local, independent shops.
