Part of The Imperial War Museum, the War Rooms sit underneath the Treasury and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office #278 in Whitehall. They were used by Winston Churchill as the command centre for operations during the Second World War. The permanent exhibition contains the offices and the map room, which has been left as it was in 1945. The site is also home to the Churchill Museum, which contains objects related to life, letters and extracts of famous speeches of the wartime leader.
