080: Propaganda Poster Art Centre
Set up a few years ago, this museum and shop used to be seen as an underground venture due to the sometimes sensitive nature of the poster content. Chinese propaganda from the 20th century is on display, including from difficult periods such as the Great Leap Forward and the Cultural Revolution. The anti-foreign sentiment in some of the posters is fascinating, with Britain and the USA being the main targets. Still relatively difficult to find, the centre is housed in the basement of a residential block in the former French Concession #111. The shop sells vintage posters for varying prices and is a great place to pick up a souvenir.
