These dumplings or buns get their name from the bamboo baskets in which they are steamed. There are many different types of dumpling in China. These are particular to Shanghai and the surrounding area. The Nanxiang Steamed Bun restaurant #248 in the Yu Garden hub #249 takes its name from the area of Shanghai where these dumplings were created. Xiaolongbao have a thinner skin than other dumplings and are usually filled with pork and meat juice. These must-try local delicacies are eaten with vinegar and shredded ginger. Locals would direct you to the aforementioned bun shop, while foreigners might send you to Din Tai Fung #206 for the best examples.
