162: Lyceum Theatre
Credit: Threesixfive Content Ltd
Constructed in 1931, this theatre, named “Lan Xin” in Chinese, was the home of the Shanghai amateur dramatics society. Today the theatre still regularly puts on plays, mainly in Chinese, but also in English. Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap was recently performed here. The area was an important cultural hub with the former French Club (Okura Garden Hotel #167), the Cathay Theatre #173 and the former Cathay Apartments (Jin Jiang Hotel #166) all nearby.
