Suzhou Creek, also known as Wusong River, connects Lake Tai near Suzhou with the Huangpu River #297 in Shanghai and flows directly through Shanghai's city centre. The creek was important in the trade of goods between Shanghai, an international port, and China's interior. Due to the working nature of the creek, many warehouses and industrial buildings sprung up along its banks. Today these buildings are in the process of conversion to apartments, galleries and shops. The creek is criss-crossed by many architecturally significant bridges, the most famous of which is Waibaidu Bridge #311.
