2010 saw Shanghai’s global coming out party, the Expo 2010 Shanghai China. It is difficult to exaggerate the importance the local government placed on this World Expo. Beijing was awarded the Olympics and Shanghai got the Expo. Estimates of the cost involved in preparations range from US$60-100bn, including a second airport, a complete renovation of the Bund #295, constructing new tunnels underneath, and the creation of the largest Expo area in history. The Expo site is under redevelopment now but includes some of the more impressive original buildings, including the China Pavilion, now the China Art Museum #355, the Mercedes-Benz Arena #357 and the new Shanghai “Power Station of Art” Museum #238.
